Bluegrass Cookout ~ Sat, Jul 4, '26

On Friday & Saturday, July 3 & 4, the town of Smithville hosts the 55th Annual Fiddlers' Jamboree, one of country's premier bluegrass music competitions. Just a few minutes from the Dekalb County Courthouse where the hoedown takes place, Evins Mill is a convenient springboard for the festival - as well as a cool escape from the heat - and a relaxing destination for great meals, outdoor adventure, and overnight accommodations.

To that end, the resort is hosting its own annual Bluegrass Cookout from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. that same Saturday. Appetizers are available as early as 6:00 p.m. Guests are invited to book a room or make reservations for dinner-only. Whether you stay over or come just for dinner, come with an appetite - both for great food and a tasty slice of Americana music.

While we often promote Evins Mill as a place for adults, business groups and special events, it's a pretty cool place for families too. To that end, from Sun, May 24 through Thu, July 2 as part of our School's Out Special, children high school age and younger stay and dine for free!

For families remaining close to home this summer but looking for local adventure, Evins Mill features a variety of family-friendly activities, including...

  • self-guided hikes to the overlooks and base of Carmac Falls
  • lawn games, including corn hole, ring toss, horse shoes and ladder golf
